Joanne was born in Norton, Kansas on April 6, 1919 to Helen and Arthur Krier. She had a brother, Gerald Krier who predeceased her. She attended school in the Denver area. While attending Byers Jr. High, she was a tennis champion. She attended South High School and met her husband, John Richard Sandburg there. They were married on March 13, 1943 in Philadelphia Pennsylvania.

Their first daughter, Susan Marilyn Sandburg was born August 10, 1944 in Philadelphia. Soon after Dick and Joanne returned to the Denver area. Dick went to work for Samsonite Luggage. Their second daughter, Sharon Lynn Sandburg was born on June 24, 1947.

Dick and Joanne enjoyed playing golf, fishing, gardening, playing bridge and entertaining many friends over the years. They spent many happy summers at their condo in Carbondale, Colorado along with their family who were very special to them. They loved to travel and dance at Elitches gardens. They were members of Grace Chapel where they were very active in Bible Study and Service groups. They had many friends at Grace Chapel before they were unable to attend services because of declining health.

Joanne loved to sew. She helped Sue with making floral arrangements that they sold at many craft shows over 40 years. Dick helped cut out the wood items that Sue painted for these shows.

Dick and Joanne loved spending time with their family. Daughter Susan (Dennis) Reynolds had three daughters. Vicki (David) Maloney have a daughter Tatum who is a Senior at Mullen High School. Second daughter Stephanie (John) Menzel have a son Colton who graduated from CU last year, Bryn who is a senior at CSU and Julia who is a Sophomore at Thunder Ridge High School in Highlands Ranch. Kimberly Dunn has twins Teagan and Trey who are Freshman at Mountain Vista High School in Highlands Ranch. The grandkids liked to call her Gigi (great grandmother).

Daughter Sharon (Ed) Wall have a daughter Kasey Lynn O'Neal. Kasey has a son Nathan who is 3 years old. He is the apple of their eye and a joy to their family.

Dick and Joanne sold their home in Littleton and moved to Someren Glen West in January of 2007. They made many friends over the years and enjoyed living there. Dick passed away January 11, 2013.
Joanne moved to Assisted Living in January of 2017 and then to The Suites of Someren Glenn in August of that year. Her health continued to decline over the past 5 months. Joanne passed away on New Year's Eve just before midnight.

A private family burial was held on Thursday January 4 at Olinger Chapel Hill Cemetery. A celebration of her life and lunch followed. We plan on having a Memorial for Joanne sometime this summer to celebrate her long and happy life.
