Lola Joyce Philpot, 81, passed away on June 16, 2017 in Littleton, Colorado. She was born on July 26, 1935 in Topeka, Kansas to Jesse and Bessie Mitchell. Lola was the youngest of four children. Her siblings were Christine, Jess, and Loren. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.

She was raised in Sharon, Kansas where her father was the town sheriff. As a teenager, she went to live in Texas with her sister Christine in Austin and her brother Jess in Houston. She attended high school in Austin and was in the band, a cheerleader, and taught baton twirling. Lola became an avid swimmer and swam in the Austin Aquatic Ballet. She returned to Kansas for her senior year in high school and graduated from Turon High School in 1953.

Looking for work Lola went to Houston with her brother Jess. She did not find the job she wanted so she enrolled in college at the University of Texas in Austin completing one year.

Then life became far more exciting. She went to visit her brother Loren in Albuquerque where she met John Balmer who was a sergeant in the Air Force at Kirkland Air Force Base. Lola and John were married in 1954 and after his discharge they moved to Littleton, Colorado.

Lola and John had three children, Bob Balmer, Vicki Albers (Tim), and Beverly Krieg (Danny) who were raised in Littleton. John passed away in 1982.
Lola's employment career included Security Guard, CNA, retail sales, and operating her own house cleaning business.

In 1984, she met Robert Philpot. He invited her to go on a motorcycle ride with him and she enjoyed it so much that she insisted on riding every time he went for a ride. They were married in 1987 and Bob's three children also joined the family, Tracy Philpot (Mark Janes) Rodney (Carla) and Kristin Daniels (Steve).
Bob and Lola shared many interests and enjoyed doing everything together. Among the activities they shared were motorcycling, bicycle riding, dancing, skiing, and fishing (Bob fished, Lola read books in the shade of a tree). In addition, Lola loved her music, playing the keyboard and native American flute. Her favorite music style was ragtime.

Lola had to give up most of the physical activities when she was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2001. But, she never gave up reading, always finding a new book she just had to read.

Above all, she loved her family. Lola was very proud of all of the kids and grandkids and she looked forward to the Christmas season when everyone was invited to her house for a grand buffet on Christmas Eve.

Lola will be missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Robert; three children, Vicki, Bob, and Beverly; three step-children, Tracy, Rodney, and Kristin; twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 10:00am at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary in Centennial. Lola will be laid to rest at Olinger Chapel Hill Cemetery the same day.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lola's honor to the Foothills Animal Shelter, 580 Mcintyre St., Golden, CO 80401.
